Extension of visa/visa-free travel
Extension of a national visa
You apply for the extension of a national visa no later than the last day of the validity of the visa you have.
A national visa can be extended once, but the period of stay on the basis of an extended national visa cannot exceed the period provided for a national visa, i.e. 1 year.
National visa and Schengen visa can be extended only in exceptional situations – when the events that are the reason for applying for visa extension occurred independently of you and were not foreseeable on the day of visa application.
Documents needed to obtain a stamp in your passport (so-called formal requirements):
- travel document, valid min. 3 months after the period of validity of the visa you wish to extend, contains at least 2 blank pages and was issued within the last 10 years;
- a current photograph;
- documents confirming:
- the purpose and conditions of the planned stay,possession of sufficient funds to cover the cost of living for the entire period of the planned stay in the territory of the Republic of Poland and for the return trip to the country of origin or residence or for transit to a third country that will grant entry permission,possession of health insurance,
- intention to leave the territory of the Republic of Poland before the expiration of the visa, e.g. booking a ticket;
- proof of payment of stamp duty
Documents needed for visa extension:
- documents confirming the special nature of your stay in Poland, which you could not foresee when applying for a visa.
Schengen visa extension
You apply for Schengen visa extension no later than on the last day of the validity of the visa you have.
The period of validity of an issued Schengen visa or the length of stay covered by this visa can be extended, but the period of stay on the basis of an extended Schengen visa cannot exceed the period provided for this visa, i.e. 90 days within 180 days.
National visa and Schengen visa can be extended only in exceptional situations – when the events that are the reason for applying for visa extension occurred independently of you and were not foreseeable on the day of visa application.
Documents needed to obtain a stamp in your passport (so-called formal requirements):
- a travel document that expires no earlier than 3 months after the expiration of the visa you are applying for, contains at least two blank pages, and was issued within the last 10 years;
- a current photograph:
- documents confirming:
- the purpose and conditions of your planned stay,possession of sufficient funds to cover your living expenses for the entire period of your planned stay in the territory of the Republic of Poland and for your return trip to your country of origin or residence or for transit to a third country that will grant you entry, possession of health insurance,
- credibility of the declaration of intention to leave the territory of the Republic of Poland before the expiration of the visa, e.g. return ticket;
- proof of payment of stamp duty.
The fee for the extension of a Schengen visa is EUR 30 (the conversion of the equivalent of EUR into PLN is made according to the average exchange rate announced by the European Central Bank for that currency on the last working day preceding the day of application for visa extension).
Schengen visa extension due to force majeure or for humanitarian reasons is done free of charge.

- documents confirming the special nature of your stay in Poland, which you could not foresee when applying for a visa.
Extension of visa-free movement
Citizens of the following countries can apply for visa-free stay extension: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Honduras, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Singapore, Uruguay.
You apply for visa-free stay extension no later than the last day of your visa-free stay.
Visa-free travel can be extended by 90 days.
If you apply on time, your stay will be considered legal until the day you receive your visa-free stay extension approval or a decision to deny it.
Documents needed:
- travel document,
- You may attach documents to support the justification of your application.
Duplicate visa
Have you lost your passport or had to replace it, and did you have a valid visa in it?
You can apply for a duplicate visa issued by the Polish consul if you lost or replaced your passport, and there was a valid residence visa pasted in it
A duplicate visa is a document issued for the same period for which the visa was issued in your previous passport.
Documents needed:
- valid travel document
- a copy of your previous travel document
- a copy of the visa you had – if you have one
Remember that we can issue a duplicate visa only if the visa was issued by a Polish consul. If the visa was issued by the authorities of another country, you will not receive a duplicate of such a visa from us.
